Stained Board Samples
The top board is an old reclaimed pine board, the lower one is a new white one.  This shows the effect of stains on both types of wood. Go to Index of Floors for an example of a floor stained middle oak.
The shade of stain, from left to right is as follows ;
Walnut,   Ebony,   Dark Burmese Teak,   Brown Mahogany,   Red Mahogany,   Dark Oak.
Unstained,   Light Antique Pine,   Pine,   Light Scandinavian Teak,   Light Oak,   Medium Oak.
Staining is not always recommended.  It shows up flaws in the floor, like fingerprint powder,  Also the different machines used for different areas of the floor will affect the way the stain takes.  Some areas will look darker than others.  One does not know this exactly until the stain is actually down.  I use oil based stains as they do not raise the grain of the wood, making it rougher again.  Stain is applied by brush and then rubbed into the wood to equalize it.
