I charge £5 a square metre extra to stain floors.
A Selection of floors I have sanded and stained. Also my sample boards of stains available.....one board new wood and one old wood sanded then stained. The stain takes differently to old and new wood. This will give you an idea.

Do not get your floors stained unless you absolutely cannot live with the natural colour of the wood. The natural colour is always best, showing the age and charming patina of the floor. Staining is also like finger-print powder.....it shows up invisible flaws in the wood and sanding marks, even though the wood feels, and is, smooth and well finished.
