A reclaimed butlers sink installed above a stainless steel sink unit. The unit is re-inforced to take the extra weight. The taps are disconnected then raised a foot or more. The sink is positioned on boards and a unit is built around it. The whole point is to make the sink look stand alone, not just sitting on another sink. The beauty is that the customer can then take her sink with her when she moves......leaving behind the stainless sink.......the whole lot can be moved easily, without any plumbing being done afterwards....the taps just stay higher than they were......which is always useful.....taps are always too low anyway. A very useful space is created under the hinged draining board.....which is solid beech from IKEA........sanded smooth, smooth and varnished. If oiling is preferred then olive oil or 'salad bowl oil' must be used.....not ordinary wood finishing oils because of the eating utensils. Marvellous for tenants.
