.........Most of the Stairs have now been grained and varnished, and here is the result. The method I use makes it a lot harder to slip on these stairs, as I lower the Spring and Summer growth of wood, thus leaving a raised Autumn grain. I coated with 4 coats of a Swedish floor finish which the client specified and purchased. These stairs are over 100 years old and the sides covered with layer after layer of paint and thick primer. As you can see they come up like new, it just takes a lot of work and time, and some of it is very intricate when dealing with the mouldings.
